Capitol Police Chief Charles Tubbs, who drew lots of both negative and positive attention for his handling of last year’s protests, is retiring from the position. He will be the new Director of Dane County Emergency Management.
Tubbs was often the face of the police response to the historic, weeks-long occupation of the Capitol building last February and March. He also made headlines after a new rule instated last winter that required protesters to apply for a permit before holding an event at the Capitol.
“During some of the most challenging times in the history of our State Capitol, Chief Tubbs maintained a steady and even hand in meeting the goal of protecting public safety,” DOA Secretary Mike Huebsch said in a statement.
