State Rep. Tamara Grigsby, D-Milwaukee, announced Tuesday she will not seek reelection for a fifth term in office.
Grigsby, who is one of only two Assembly Democrats on the influential Joint Finance Committee, was hospitalized and in critical condition with a weakened immune system in December. The 37-year-old previously battled cancer and was unable to work for much of the 2012 legislative session.
"Unfortunately, the incivility and lack of compassion that characterized the 2011-2012 Legislative Session affected my health,” Grigsby said in a statement. “After much soul-searching, I have decided that this is a good time for me to be of service in new ways.”
During the 2009-10 legislative session Grigsby authored 18 bills, the most of any representative that year. Before joining the Assembly, Grigsby was a social worker in Milwaukee.
