The Dane County Court charged five suspects Tuesday for their alleged involvement in the May 19 University Avenue shooting incident.
22-year-old Derek Cannon, who police believe fired shots, was charged with three counts of first degree reckless endangerment for use of a dangerous weapon, according to the Dane County Circuit Court records. He was also charged with three counts of felony bail jumping.
The Manitowoc Police Department arrested Cannon Saturday, and he is now in the Dane County Jail, according to Madison Police Department spokesperson Joel DeSpain.
MTPD Capt. Scott Luchterhand said Cannon tried to avoid arrest by hiding in the backseat of a friend’s car and giving false identification information.
Police are still looking for 20-year-old Darrion Brown, also known as Thunny, who was charged with three counts of reckless endangerment for use of a dangerous weapon, according to court records.
DeSpain said police believe Brown fired shots that injured people during the incident.
“We believe this started with an altercation in the street between people who have been having an ongoing feud,” DeSpain said.
Three brothers, Christopher, Michael and Nicholas McQueen, were also charged in relation to the shooting incident based off of surveillance video footage, according to the Wisconsin State Journal.
Christopher was charged with obstructing officers, disorderly conduct and misdemeanor bail jumping, according to the State Journal. His brothers, 23-year-old Michael and 22-year-old Nicholas, were charged with obstructing police, according to the same article.
DeSpain said police have not ruled out the possibility a third gun was used during the shooting because of evidence of a blood trail leading away from the scene.
“We have this person we have still to identify who runs from the scene and appears to be injured,” DeSpain said. “We don’t know if that person was shot by someone at the scene of if they accidentally shot themselves.”
