If introductions were not so simple and I were a shy person, standard reasoning might lead me to believe 90% of the general Electric Forest crowd’s parents named their children “Bro.”
Not the case, but still, it can give you a decent idea of the fan base at this year’s festival.
Electric Forest, formerly known as “Rothbury,” takes place on JJ’s Ranch in Rothbury, Mich. and plays host to four days of electronic wubbing, dubbing, and all-around blow-your-eardrums bass for the dubstep and jam band inclined. This year’s headliners include Bassnectar, String Cheese Incident, Sound Tribe Sector 9 (STS9) and Girl Talk, but the real gems of the festival will hopefully come from the burgeoning acts of ensembles and solo performers throughout the day.
Arriving around 2 a.m. on Friday, I unfortunately had to miss Thursday’s music, but certainly caught the onslaught of fireworks circa 3 a.m. and general hoots and hollers from all around the grounds. I almost forgot the Fourth of July is this Wednesday. Almost.
But no matter, the Ranch hosts a genial crowd who are presumably just looking to have a good time and hear new tunes to which they can get down. Stay tuned throughout the weekend for more show updates and to hear about all the forest frolicking this fest is sure to inspire.
And as I work to wrangle some new tunes for your electro-listening pleasure, be sure to follow @DCArtsDesk on Twitter for live show updates! Talk soon, bros.
