A Madison man called police after he discovered his car was broken into Sunday afternoon on the 300 block of South Brooks Street.
The 23-year-old victim parked his car in an unlit alleyway on South Brooks Street where a criminal broke into his trunk at approximately 12:42 p.m., according to Madison Police Department spokesperson Joel DeSpain.
Police said the criminal was able to break into the trunk and stole a handgun, rifle, shotgun and ammunition from the victim.
The victim was unable to provide a description of the suspect.
Also on Sunday, police reported robberies on the 2100 block of Taft Street, 1300 block of Chandler Street, 2300 block of University Avenue and the 700 block of West Washington.
This summer city officials implemented the Downtown Safety Initiative which increased funding to provide more officers in the downtown area on weekend nights. However, the parts of Madison where these incidents occurred are not affected by the initiative, according to Ald. Mike Verveer, District 4.
