Freshman goalkeeper Chase Rau was named the Big Ten’s co-defensive player of the week in men’s soccer after recording two shutouts during Wisconsin’s weekend road trip.
The Sparta, Mich., native tallied four saves in a 0-0 tie against Western Illinois and a 2-0 victory over IUPUI.
“Chase is a very confident young goalkeeper. [He] has been performing well,” head coach John Trask said at his Monday press conference. “I think Chase has made a big save in every game, and we need that.”
Rau is the first Badger to win the award since his teammate and fellow goalkeeper, junior Max Jentsch, in October 2011.
The Badgers (2-2-3 overall) return to the field this Friday as they open Big Ten play at McClimon Soccer Complex against Penn State (5-5-1 overall).
