A University of Wisconsin-Madison student’s commute to class was sharply interrupted after she collided on her bike with another student driving a moped on Frances Street Thursday afternoon.
A 21-year-old woman struck the back of a male student’s moped after she peddled down a steep driveway, which led to the 600 block of North Frances Street, according to Madison Police Department spokesperson Joel DeSpain.
DeSpain said in a statement the collision caused her to fall to the pavement and hit her head.
Although the moped driver was not injured, the woman was taken to an Intensive Care Unit for bleeding inside her skull, according to DeSpain.
Friends of the victim said they believe she was on her way to class when the accident occurred, according to DeSpain.
“There was nothing to suggest alcohol was involved,” DeSpain said.
Police did not cite the moped driver, according to a statement.
