The University of Wisconsin-Madison released the names of three finalists for assistant dean in the Division of Student Life and director of the Center for the First-Year Experience.
Carren Martin, interim co-director of UW-Madison’s Center for the First-Year Experience; Elizabeth John, Edgewood College’s assistant dean of Students and Director of Student Activities; and Emily Arth, Indiana University’s senior assistant director in the Office of First-Year Experience Programs are the three finalists chosen by a six-member search committee.
All three candidates are scheduled to visit campus to give presentations and introduce themselves to the campus community, with Martin visiting Oct. 19, John Oct. 22 and Arth Oct. 29. Each session will be held from 1:15 pm to 2:15 pm in the Masley Media Room in the Red Gym.
According to Dean of Students Lori Berquam, this position plays an important role in campus initiatives aimed at welcoming students to campus, whether they be freshmen, transfers or students returning from semester breaks.
“CFYE has certainly charted an important course in creating goals and outcomes for first-year students and developing programs that help students feel connected here but also understand the academic rigor of UW-Madison,” Berquam said.
Berquam said she hopes the public will take advantage of the opportunity to participate in the upcoming presentations from the finalists.
“It’s an important way for them to see and understand where we’re headed in the Division of Student Life and the Center for the First Year Experience,” Berquam said.
