Local artists can compete to open for Freakfest headliners

University of Wisconsin-Madison students may see familiar faces on stage among famous musicians at this year’s Freakfest event on Halloween weekend, according to police.

WomStreet, a “competitive social media” website, is hosting a contest for local artists to submit their best music to its website, where users can vote for the best entries.

The winner will open for rapper Mac Miller and electronic duo Big Gigantic, according to a WomStreet press release.

“For Frank Productions, the Freakfest concert promoter and contest sponsor, it allows them to endorse the Madison music scene in a positive way,” WomStreet representative Taylor Horsager said in a statement.

Freakfest, a music and costume festival, will take over the State Street area Saturday, Oct. 27.

The contest ends Oct. 17. Music by Atamis and Grand Theft Portal currently occupy first and second place on the website.
