After 43 years at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Professor Emeritus of Geography Jim Knox died at his home Oct. 6.
Knox began teaching at UW-Madison in 1968, before retiring in 2011 to focus on his research exploring how streams and soils work.
During his teaching career, Knox received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Association of American Geographers and numerous grants from the National Science Foundation.
His 1993 article in the science journal Nature has been widely accepted and used in the Geomorphology field. The article stated that even small changes in climate cause large changes in the number of floods along area streams.
A memorial service will be held Oct. 12 at 12 p.m. at Cress Funeral Home in Madison. A visitation will begin at 10 a.m.
