The Wisconsin Institute for Discovery at the University of Wisconsin-Madison was recognized for the environmentally friendly design of its building during an awards ceremony Tuesday.
The Innovation in Green Building Award recognizes one college or university that works to build with sustainability and environmental issues in mind. The award is presented by a collaboration of the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education, the Center for Green Schools and the U.S. Green Building Council.
The WID building won the award because of its combination of innovative operations and architectural design, according to a statement released by the university.
The WID has also received other awards for its inventive structure, including the 2012 Laboratory of the Year from R&D Magazine and a LEED Gold certification in 2011.
