The city of Madison closed the southbound lane of the 200 block of North Lake Street as contractors began demolition of the old Gordon Commons dining hall Monday.
City traffic engineers said drivers should expect the lane to remain closed through Dec. 14.
“Motorists are encouraged to use different routes to avoid delay during this project,” David Dryer, Madison’s City Traffic Engineer and Parking Manager, said in a statement.
The old Gordon Commons has been officially closed since the end of the 2011-'12 school year and was replaced with the new Gordon Dining and Event Center in August, which serves students in the Southeast neighborhood.
