Madison police arrest man after he tried to sell a laptop in a West Gorham Street diner

Detectives named a Milwaukee man the primary suspect in four recent Madison robberies when police took him into custody after the man attempted to sell a laptop computer in a diner on the 300 block of West Gorham Street Nov. 20.

The suspect, Mr. Joseph Finney III, 42, was told to leave the diner after someone at the diner called the police to report his suspicious behavior, according to Madison Police Department Spokesperson Joel DeSpain.

Police took Finney into custody for not appearing in court after he posted bail, according to the report, although he claimed the computer he attempted to sell in the diner belonged to his girlfriend.

Detectives named Finney the primary suspect in two robberies that occurred in Madison Nov. 3 at a PDQ store on West Broadway and at a Mobil Gas Station on Atwood Avenue, in addition to two robberies that occurred Nov. 15 at a PDQ store on Fish Hatchery Road and a PDQ store on Lien Road.
