The United Council of University of Wisconsin Students is offering the opportunity for students to find their polling location by texting on Election Day, Nov. 6.
The nonpartisan student organization has three steps students can follow using only their cell phones. First students should text “WHERE” to 877-877. Then the program will prompt them to provide their address. Students should reply with their address and will receive their polling location.
Voters can register at polling locations, but they must bring proof of residence and a photo ID to their polling location if they have not previously registered to vote. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
If students need to provide proof of residence they can use a bank statement, paycheck, bill or any official document that bears their name and address. They will also need to show an ID in combination with any of the documents.
Students can also show the documents electronically via myvote.wi.gov to prove residence.
