The University of Wisconsin-Madison Police Department conducted a second night of its “Be Bright” bike light campaign Thursday.
UWPD partnered with Safe Communities through a grant by the Dane County Bike Association to provide free bike lights for students that do not have one.
Students were stopped by UWPD if they did not have a light on their bike and then informed of bike light regulations. While speaking with an officer, volunteers installed free bike lights on students’ bikes, according to a statement released by UWPD.
Volunteers for the “Be Bright” initiative include members of the Madison Bike Ambassadors, area bike groups, city of Madison safety educators and UW-Madison staff.
