Police seek suspect who stole wallet from woman in thrift store

Madison police are investigating a theft that occurred at a thrift shop on Williamson Street Friday involving an unidentified female suspect who allegedly stole a 69-year-old woman’s wallet.

The suspect stole the victim’s wallet out of her cart while she was shopping at the St. Vincent de Paul thrift store, located at 1309 Williamson St., according to Madison Police Department spokesperson Joel DeSpain.

The suspect then used the stolen credit card to withdraw cash from a Monona Walmart ATM, according to the report.

Police describe the suspect as a black woman between 40 and 50 years old and are using surveillance camera footage to identify the suspect.

The MPD urges anyone with information about the theft or suspect to call Madison Area Crime Stoppers at 608-266-6014.
