Gov. Scott Walker’s Education Policy Assistant Michael Brickman will meet with student leaders Monday to discuss how the recently released state biennial budget would affect the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
According to ASM Press Office Director David Gardner, Brickman will meet with students at the Associated Students of Madison Legislative Affairs Committee meeting.
Gardner said the discussion will give students an opportunity to directly engage with one of the budget’s creators and hear more information about what the budget means for Wisconsin universities, which saw a significant decrease in funding in the last state budget.
“Legislative Affairs’ duty is always to fight for students,” Gardner said. “A big component of that is looking at the state budget.”
Gardner said students hope to discuss the budget’s implications for financial aid and tuition as Walker’s budget proposal would remove the current tuition cap, which limits tuition increases to 5.5 percent.
