Attack on Gilman street in defense of sister’s honor, suspect says

Madison police officers arrested a man Sunday morning after he punched two men on the 400 block of West Gilman Street, leaving one with a chipped tooth, according to a police report.

Paris Reese, 21, was reportedly intoxicated when he attacked the men, aged 21 and 22, saying he needed to “defend his sister’s honor,” according to the report.

Madison Police Department spokesperson Joel DeSpain said in a statement it did not appear the victims knew Reese and it is unclear whether the suspect’s sister was present during the altercation.

According to DeSpain, Reese approached the two men as they were walking with friends at approximately 2:00 a.m. Sunday, when MPD officers who were on routine patrol saw the assault.

Police arrested Reese on two counts of battery, including a “tentative charge” of substantial battery because he chipped one of the victim’s teeth.
