Madison Fire Department investigators attributed a fire at a local Mexican restaurant Monday to a pot left on the kitchen stove overnight, MFD spokesperson Lori Wirth said in a press release Wednesday.
Fire fighters responded to a report of smoke at Taqueria Guadalajara, located at 1033 S. Park St., at approximately 7 a.m. Monday, according to the release.
The pot left on the burner melted overnight and ignited nearby combustible materials, causing building damages totaling approximately $150,000, Wirth said. $75,000 worth of restaurant equipment was also lost in the fire.
Wirth said because the fire has been deemed unintentional, insurance investigators will not pursue this incident further and the restaurant’s insurance will cover the full cost of damages.
According to Wirth, Taqueria Guadalajara owner Josefa Trejo plans to reopen the restaurant after repairing the building.
