There is a difference between questioning the way an organization is run and holding a bias against what an organization stands for. The MultiCultural Student Coalition should not be appealing the Student Services Finance Committee’s decision to minimally fund them, but instead have worked out a more reasonable budget than $1.4 million.

Yet again, the MultiCultural Student Coalition is bitching and moaning about the Student Services Finance Committee and its nonexistent racist agenda. The bottom line here is that if you want to be taken seriously as a student organization, show just an inkling of fiscal responsibility. Maybe if MCSC can show how it serves students in a simple Excel document, this wouldn’t be an issue. It isn’t hard people.

SSFC has the right to minimally fund MCSC if there are questions about what they did with last year’s budget, and MCSC can remain a group on campus. I doubt that neutraility had much to do with the decision because SSFC has no reason to begrudge the organization.

For the last few years, MCSC has had a tumultous relationship with our student government. Its leadership has had issues with creating proposals to meet ASM standards, there has been some scuttlebutt regarding improper use of funds, and it goes on and on. They also ask for millions of dollars. This is a group that deserves another shot at existence, and minimal funding is a great way to do that.
—Matt Beaty
SSFC’s decision to minimally fund MCSC is an assault on efforts to support and promote diversity on a campus, which has had its share of problems regarding discrimination and racism. Meanwhile, SSFC seemed to have unlimited funds when they made the decision to give more than $95,000 worth of funding to the Medieval Warriorcraft League. Obviously, SSFC does not have its priorities in order.
