Emergency officials will sound warning sirens in Dane County throughout March as part of a countywide severe weather alert system upgrade, according to a press release.
Dane County Emergency Management will sound each of the county’s 134 outdoor warning sirens individually to test them as part of the upgrade, according to the release.
The alarms used for testing will be shorter than those used for real emergencies, distinguishing them from one another. Tests will sound for approximately 60 to 90 seconds, compared to real emergency sirens, which sound for approximately three minutes, according to the release.
Some sirens may need to be tested multiple times before the configuration is complete.
DCEM will postpone testing if there is a legitimate threat of severe weather during the process, said the release.
