The University of Wisconsin-Madison Office of Multicultural Arts Initiatives will host the seventh annual Line Breaks Festival March 13-20, which features nightly performances from UW-Madison students.
The festival aims to provide an opportunity for university students to bring their artistic visions to the stage, according to a university release. It will feature solo, duo and group performances from students in the First Wave Hip-Hop Learning Community and Theater Ensemble.
First Wave will also present its newest cohort of students on the first night of the festival.
There will also be breaks in the performances each night for discussion with the performers, since each attempts to explore identity and social issues through their performances, according to the release.
Additionally, the festival’s guest artist, DawN Crandell, who is a dancer, choreographer, poet and activist, will perform an act displaying her struggles as a lesbian and multi-ethnic feminist on the final two nights of the festival, according to the release.
The performances will take place every night from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. in Lathrop Hall and are free and open to the public.
