Police surveillance on East Washington Avenue, University Avenue and John Nolen Drive will increase over the St. Patrick’s Day holiday weekend, according to a news release from the Madison Police Department.
MPD said in the release it will have additional officers patrolling the area, specifically targeting impaired and speeding drivers.
“Traditionally, this weekend has been a time when we do often see an increase in the number of impaired drivers and alcohol-related crashes,” MPD Lt. Carl Strasburg said in the release.
The increased police personnel will remain in effect from Friday, March 15 until Sunday, March 17, and police will implement a no-tolerance policy in enforcing drunk-driving laws, according to the release.
