Two state legislators announced in a statement Monday their plan to reintroduce a bill that would give a tax credit to parents who send their children to private schools.
State Sen. Glenn Grothman, R-West Bend, and state Rep. Dean Kaufert, R-Neenah, are sponsors of the bill, which would give a $1,500 tax credit for elementary school children and a $2,500 credit for each high school child at a private school.
“It would be a positive step forward in giving parents throughout Wisconsin more educational options for their children,” Kaufert said in the statement.
According to the statement, public schools receive $10,000 to $15,000 in taxpayer support per student, but parents who enroll their children in private school do not receive public assistance.
Executive Director of the Wisconsin Council of Religious and Independent Schools Matt Kussow said in a statement Monday the bill would help Wisconsin students succeed by giving them access to quality education.
