Medical examiner identifies casualty of recent campus accident

The Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the University of Wisconsin-Madison employee who died April 16 after a machine malfunction as Kenneth J. Newman, 63, of Prairie du Sac, Wis., Thursday.

Newman, who was an employee in UW-Madison’s Physical Plant department, became trapped under a loading dock lift at the university Art Lofts, 111 N. Frances Street, at approximately 1:45 p.m. He was taken to UW Hospital with serious injuries where he was pronounced dead minutes later.

The Medical Examiner reported Newman’s death resulted from the injuries he sustained from the accident, according to a release.

The UW-Madison Police Department and the Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office are still investigating the incident.
