The University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Nursing will feature two new endowed faculty chairs in 2014, due to a $5 million grant from alumni.
John and Mary Morgridge donated the grant to create endowed faculty chairs in pediatric nursing and health systems innovation. The Morgridges created the chairs to honor Mary and Carl Gulbrandsen, who have ties to the university as the Director of the Wisconsin Alumni Research Fund and a nursing school alumna respectively.
Endowed faculty chairs are positions funded entirely by an endowment fund, allowing the university to maintain the positions without paying for them out of its general budget.
The two new chairs will allow the department to recruit elite faculty and will help improve the program’s quality, according to the release.
“The gift for these two endowed faculty chairs is unprecedented for the School of Nursing and a real game changer for us," School of Nursing Dean Katharyn May said in the release.
