A University of Wisconsin-Madison program is now offering an online option for a Consumer Health Advocacy Certificate, beginning in Spring 2013.
The Center for Patient Partnerships, a UW-Madison interdisciplinary center that focuses on improving healthcare quality through patient advocacy in the schools of Law, Medicine and Public Health, Nursing and Pharmacy, created the certificate program.
The university is offering the online certificate program as part of an effort to reach more students and make programs more flexible for both traditional and non-traditional students, according to a university release.
UW-Madison is one of few universities to offer patient advocacy training through the CPP and is the only university with a service-learning component, according to the release.
The course educates students through videos, podcasts, case studies and readings, but also creates an online community that promotes student interaction, peer support and idea sharing, according to the release.
