An Associated Students of Madison representative will retain his post after he violated election rules, ASM’s Student Judiciary ruled Monday.
Student Judiciary members heard the case against Senior Class President-elect Joseph Meeker last week after Univeristy of Wisconsin-Madison junior Ryan Hughes filed a complaint saying Meeker hung campaign posters in prohibited locations including columns in the Humanities Building and a Langdon Street light pole.
The judiciary ruled Meeker acted “in good faith,” as he did not realize he was violating elections rules, and the violations are not sufficient to remove him from office.
Meeker will have to create an ASM election brochure detailing how to run “clean campaigns,” including lists of common infractions, in order to retain his position.
The Student Judiciary said in its ruling the wording of one of the rules in question is “rather vague” and recommended ASM’s Student Election Commission reword it in ASM’s Fall Election Rules.
