Multiple streets that serve the downtown and campus area will be closed during the upcoming holiday weekend to accommodate runners participating in two races.
The Madison Twilight 10K run will begin Saturday at 8 p.m. on Capitol Square. The route goes through the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus and loops back to the Square by way of Dayton Street. Details about the the course can be found on the race’s website.
The Madison Half Marathon starts Sunday at 7 a.m. on Capitol Square. The route goes through the UW-Madison campus, continues down Monroe Street and through the UW Arboretum before looping back up to Dayton Street, finishing on the Square. According to a city news release, police and race volunteers will be stationed at intersections along both routes and will allow traffic to cross only when there is significant space between groups of runners.
The city encourages drivers to use alternate routes.
