The University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents will discuss a possible expanded tuition freeze for UW System schools Thursday, which would cover graduate students and out-of-state undergraduates.
The board will meet Thursday and Friday in Madison to discuss the impact of the 2013-’15 Wisconsin state budget and tuition rates for the coming years, including the proposed expansion to Gov. Scott Walker’s tuition freeze.
The tuition freeze expansion for out-of-state undergraduates would help “stabilize enrollments” after an expected dip in the number of in-state students due to declining high school graduates across the state, according to the proposal.
Additionally, the proposal cited the need for a tuition freeze for graduate students to attract the “best and brightest” students to continue the system’s history of breakthrough research and high quality teaching assistants in the classroom.
The board will also vote on increases to room and board costs, as well as increases to student segregated fees to raise additional revenue.
