Police arrest couple for theft, burglary, fraud

Police arrested a couple Wednesday in relation to various thefts on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus and throughout Dane County, according to a UW-Madison Police Department statement.

Jamie Anderson, 22, of Stoughton and Jason Hart, 37, of Madison used stolen credit cards to buy items such as laptops, cigarettes and movies, then pawn, sell or exchange the goods with an area drug dealer to obtain heroin, according to UWPD spokesperson Marc Lovicott.

Lovicott said in the statement the couple would also steal items such as computers, purses and wallets on the UW-Madison campus, which they would sell to feed their drug habit.

Madison police worked with university police to take Hart into custody, and a security team at Target identified Anderson who the UWPD later arrested, according to the statement.

Anderson and Hart face fraud, theft and burglary charges for the thefts, according to the statement. Additional charges against the couple are still possible as police are investigating other thefts that police believe are tied to the couple.
