At a University of Wisconsin-Madison stakeholders meeting Wednesday, campus planners asked community members for input on the design plans for the 700 and 800 blocks of State Street and Library Mall.
Suggestions from attendees included adding more lights, trees and moveable seating, as well creating an efficient way to deal with bike traffic.
Construction is scheduled to begin next spring, and according to Director of Campus Planning Gary Brown, the project will hopefully be finished sometime in 2017. However, that does not include any construction plans for Library Mall, which is in early planning stages.
UW-Madison sophomore Ryan Prestil said he thinks the wait will be worth it.
“When it finally is done, it will be a really great space to capture iconic Wisconsin, especially with the plans to tie in Bascom all the way to State Street,” Prestil said. “That’s sort of the key space of Wisconsin and it could be like a centerpiece for the University.”
