Police use surveillance to make arrest in August robbery

Police arrested a 23-year-old Madison man in connection to a residential robbery on the 200 block of West Lakelawn Place that occurred in early August, according to a police report.

The suspects stole electronics and jewelry from two 23-year-old Lakelawn Place residents, the report said.

According to the report, detectives identified 23-year-old Abdulahi Abdi by using apartment building surveillance video and a photo of the suspect selling the stolen items at Pawn America, which is located on East Springs Drive.

A downtown Madison Police Department officer recognized the suspect while on routine patrol, the report said.

One of the victims said he might have left the door to the apartment unlocked when he left on the night of the crime, the report said, and there were no signs of forced entry.

Police charged Abdi with party to a crime and two counts of fraudulent writings, according to the report.
