The Wisconsin Science Festival starts Thursday and will continue until Sunday on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus, generating a local Wisconsin feel as participants can attend sessions teaching the science behind making bratwurst and beer.
Most of the area activities will be held on UW-Madison’s campus in the Town Center at the Wisconsin Institute for Discovery. Other events will also take place around campus, at the Madison Children’s Museum and Henry Vilas Zoo. The event is anchored in Madison, but will also take place at sites in surrounding Wisconsin.
The festival will include free admission and feature interactive exhibits, workshops, lectures, demonstrations and conversations with leading researchers. Other events will involve the physics of football, live science fiction radio and activities that explore the science of food.
Headlines for this year’s festival include Ira Flatow, host of NPR’s Science Friday, and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Deborah Blum, a UW-Madison professor and an evolutionary biologist.
