Pink flamingos once again dotted Bascom Hill Wednesday, as part of Share the Wonderful campaign’s “Fill the Hill” event.
The campaign received 427 donations between 5 p.m. Tuesday and 5 p.m. Wednesday. The original goal was to receive 365 gifts, enough to reach Abe Lincoln’s statue at the top of Bascom Hill.
Share the Wonderful is the university’s annual fundraising campaign, which runs from October through December and is sponsored by the UW Foundation and the Wisconsin Alumni Association
Volunteers were ready to place one flamingo for each gift, starting at the bottom of Bascom and moving upward to mark the campaign’s progress.
The Bascom Hill pink flamingoes first appeared on Sept. 4, 1979 as part of what is considered to be one of the most successful pranks in the history of the university, according to a news release.
University Communications Director John Lucas said the total donation amount is still being processed.
