Gov. Scott Walker signs bills to give student veterans priority in course registration

Gov. Scott Walker signed two bills aiding Wisconsin veterans after the Capitol Veterans Day ceremony Friday, one of which gives student veterans priority in course registration at any University of Wisconsin System or technical college, according to a press release.

Act 56 will give soldiers priority because they have difficulties registering for the classes they need to advance their careers.

“This legislation means [service members and veterans] have access to a quality education which can help propel their future,” Walker said in the release.

The act will affect registration for students’ spring 2014 courses.

Walker also signed Act 55, which offers Purple Heart recipients in-state rates for hunting, fishing and trapping permits, regardless of where they live.

According to Department of Natural Resources press release, Wisconsin residents can save $155 on a conservation patron license and non-residents can save $439.

Both bills passed with overwhelming bipartisan support.
