Sustainability Committee will host fair Thursday

A Sustainability Fair Thursday will include a keynote address by a geoenvironmental engineering expert and a discussion of the next steps to the “green fund.”

The Associated Students of Madison Sustainability Committee is hosting the event. Committee Chair Will Mulhern said it will serve as a networking event for environmental groups on campus to build relationships and work together as a cohesive unit.

The fair will run from 5 to 7 p.m. in room 159 of the Education Building.

Engineering Research Scientist Sabrina Bradshaw, who serves as a coordinator in the University of Wisconsin-Madison Office of Sustainability, is the keynote speaker. Her research focuses include examining different barrier materials used in waste management systems.

ASM representatives recently approved money for an $80,000 “green fund” starting next year. A few steps need to be taken, but the fund will be used to give grants to student sustainability projects. Mulhern said students will discuss possible project ideas the green fund could support.
