The University of Wisconsin System granted funding to two proposals involving UW-Madison Friday as part of a systemwide program meant to encourage economic growth and a stronger workforce in the state.
In total the Incentive Grant program awarded 12 grants amounting to $22.5 million over the next two years.
One $3,218,703 grant to UW-Madison, UW-Eau Claire, UW-Milwaukee and UW-Oshkosh aims to address the nursing shortage by working to increase faculty and enrollment totals and augmenting development programs.
Another $2.4 million was allocated to UW-Madison’s Igniter program, which aims to be “an engine for technological commercialization.”
Various UW institutions applied for 56 grants.
The Board of Regents approved the Incentive Grant Program in early October as part of the 2013-’15 biennium budget. Proposals needed to address economic development, workplace development or college affordability.
