The Young Progressives to host women’s rights forum featuring state Representatives
The Young Progressives, a University of Wisconsin-Madison student political organization, is hosting a forum promoting women’s rights Tuesday featuring state Rep. Melissa Sargent, D-Madison, and state Rep. Chris Taylor, D-Madison, as keystone panelists.
Ann Degarmo, vice president of The Young Progressives will moderate the ‘Stand with Women’ forum for one hour after the event, which is when students will have the opportunity to follow up with their own questions, according to an emailed statement.
The Young Progressives’ President Sean Hoey, who also writes for The Daily Cardinal, said the forum will cover issues including reproductive health, pay equality, leadership disparity and domestic and sexual violence in both government and business.
“We just want to start building support for women’s rights,” Hoey said.
In addition to Sargent and Taylor, the panel will consist of members from 9to5, a national association of working women and members of Planned Parenthood Advocates, a health care advocacy organization.
The forum will be held at 6 p.m. in room B10 of Ingraham Hall.
