UW student punched early Saturday morning

A University of Wisconsin-Madison student was the victim of a battery, which occurred Saturday morning at approximately 2:15 a.m. on the 300 block of North Frances Street, according to a UW Police Department release.

The 23-year old male was walking with a group on Frances Street, when a suspect from another group punched him without warning. The victim required medical treatment including stitches following the assault.

The suspect fled into a nearby parking ramp, and officers were unable to locate the individual.

Police describe the suspect as a Hispanic male in his 20s, 180 pounds, short dark hair, with a thin outline style beard. He was last seen wearing a white jacket with a horizontal blue and yellow stripe with grey shoulders and sleeves, dark pants and white athletic shoes, according to the release.

UW-Madison issued a “timely warning” alert Saturday, an effort to comply with the federal “Clery Act,” which requires universities to report severe crimes close to campus to all students.

UWPD is actively investigating the case, according to the release.
