Four head coaches of fall sports at UW had their contract extensions approved by the UW Athletic Board Friday afternoon.
Badger football head coach Gary Andersen was given an extension until 2019. Wisconsin (6-2 Big Ten, 9-4 overall) lost by one possession at Arizona State, Ohio State and at home to Penn State this season.
In Andersen's first year, the team failed to make the Rose Bowl and instead traveled to Orlando, Fla. to play South Carolina in the Capital One bowl where they fell to the Gamecocks, 34-24.
The promise for the team includes the return of Heisman-hopeful redshirt sophomore running back Melvin Gordon, freshman standout running back Corey Clement and four-star quarterback recruit D.J. Gillins.
Volleyball head coach Kelly Sheffield also earned an extension through 2018 after the Badgers' (12-8, 28-10) magical NCAA tournament run this season. They defeated No. 1-seeded Texas in the national semifinal before falling to Penn State 3-1 in the championship.
With an NCAA tournament appearance of their own, Wisconsin men's soccer head coach John Trask was given a contract extension through 2017.
The Badgers (4-2-0, 14-5-2)made it to the Big Dance for the first time since 1995. In their first round game they beat in-state rival Milwaukee 1-0 at the McClimon Soccer Complex where they won all ten games played there this season.
They next traveled and lost to eventual NCAA champion Notre Dame.
Paula Wilkins, head coach of the women's soccer team, also earned an extension through 2017.
Wisconsin (5-5-1, 10-7-2) stumbled late in the season, finishing 3-6-0 in their last nine games. They will be in the capable hands of freshman forward Rose Lavelle who earned MVP at the CONCACAF U20 Championships for the women's national team.
