AT&T donated $35,000 to University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Pre-College Enrichment Opportunity Program for Learning Excellence, according to a Jan. 10 press release.
PEOPLE assists unequally represented and low-income middle and high school students contemplating higher education. Once admitted to the university, students become PEOPLE College Scholars, according to the release.
AT&T has a history of backing the program, having contributed more than $1.5 million to the program since its creation in 1999, UW-Madison Interim Vice Provost for Diversity and Climate Patrick Sims said in the release. Sims added the company’s financial aid has been integral to the program’s expansion.
“The PEOPLE Program has a proven track record of excellence in advancing the educational achievements of students from underserved communities throughout Wisconsin,” Sims said. “Thanks to the support of AT&T, the PEOPLE Program has expanded over the years to now serve more than 1,300 students from across the state.”
According to the statement, the donation will assist the program to provide advising, tutoring and other support services to PEOPLE College Scholars.
