The Wisconsin Department of Administration announced Jan. 2 launch of a new tax website, OpenBook Wisconsin, aimed at providing comprehensive information on where the government spends its money.
OpenBook Wisconsin has over 25 million entries recording various government departments and their monetary transactions dating back to the 2008 fiscal year.
According to the DOA, the website covers financial transactions of state agencies, legislatures, courts and the University of Wisconsin System.
“This website is part of this Administration’s on-going commitment to making state government more transparent for the citizens of Wisconsin,” DOA Deputy Secretary Chris Schoenherr said in a statement.
The website is updated every two weeks from the state’s accounting system, according to the statement.
Salaries of state employees, grants and contracts per state agency will also eventually be added to the website, Schoenherr said in the statement.
Gov. Scott Walker promised a transparent website as part of his previous gubernatorial campaign.
