Madison police still seeking suspects in East Gorham shooting

Madison police are still searching for suspects involved in an East Gorham Street shooting that left one high school student injured with a gunshot wound Sunday morning.

The shooting occurred shortly after 2 a.m. at a house party on the 100 block of East Gorham Street, according to Madison Police Department spokesperson Joel DeSpain.

DeSpain said witnesses recalled a quarrel broke out between a group of males at the party and the argument was brought outside where the fight became "physical." According to DeSpain, a car drove by shortly after the fight broke out, and a passenger fired shots at the home.

DeSpain also said police can only speculate as to the motive of the shooters, but there is a possibility the fight was connected with the shooting. According to DeSpain, the victim who was shot was not involved with the fight that took place in the house.

Police were able to identify the gun as a handgun from the shell casings left behind.

According to DeSpain, Madison police currently have no suspects in custody. Witnesses so far have only confirmed there was more than one male passenger in the car. However, the type of car is still unknown.

Investigations are currently underway to find out more about the suspects.
