Robbers target 22-year-old in State Street apartment, police say

A 22-year-old Madison resident said two men robbed him in his State Street apartment early Monday, according to a police report.

The two men forced their way into the victim's apartment on the 500 block of State Street, demanded to know where the resident kept his money and then fled with a large amount of cash, according to Madison Police Department spokesperson Joel DeSpain.

The victim said he believes one of the robbers may have been armed with a gun, but the robbers did not reveal any weapons, according to the report.

Preliminary investigations indicate the crime was not random and the victim is not a University of Wisconsin-Madison student, police say.

Police describe the robbers as male, African American and in their twenties, according to the report. They also wore dark clothing and bandanas over their faces.

A 22-year-old female resident was home, according to the report, but the robbers did not take any of her belongings.
