University police identify suspect in December theft case

The University of Wisconsin-Madison Police Department identified a person of interest in a theft-and-fraud case, which occurred last month, and is seeking help from the community in locating the suspect, according to a statement released Thursday.

A UW-Madison student reported her wallet missing at a UW men’s hockey game Dec. 13, according to the release. The victim said she is uncertain whether the wallet fell out of her purse or was stolen.

When the victim went to cancel her credit cards the next day, someone had charged several hundred dollars to her card from several different local stores, according to the release.

UWPD has identified a person of interest through video surveillance. Anyone with information on the incident is urged to call UWPD at (608) 264-COPS.
