US Senator Tammy Baldwin to announce legislation promoting green jobs

U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin will visit four Wisconsin Technical colleges this week to announce new legislation aimed at increasing job training for high-skilled jobs in the renewable energy sector.

Baldwin visited Milwaukee Area Technical College, Lakeshore Technical College and Northeast Wisconsin Technical College Wednesday, and will visit Mid-State Technical College Thursday. She aims to discuss her proposed ‘GREEN’ Act legislation.

The Grants for Renewable Energy Education for the Nation Act, or GREEN Act, sets aside competitive grant funding for green energy technical training programs so students are better equipped for post-secondary education and highly-skilled jobs in the green-collar job market, according to Baldwin.

“In order to create a Made in Wisconsin economy that is built to last, we must invest in job training and workforce readiness for clean energy jobs,” Baldwin said in a statement. “In Wisconsin, we know that higher education is the path to the middle class and this legislation will help open the doors of opportunity and strengthen our Wisconsin economy.”

Baldwin will tour all the facilities and then hear from students, faculty and local business owners, in addition to learning about the specific programs.
