Woman killed when hit by truck identified as UW-Madison librarian

A University of Wisconsin-Madison employee who died after being hit by a delivery truck backing up on Mendota Court Thursday was identified as a Edith Dixon, according to a UW news release.

Dixon was walking on Mendota Court near Lake Street behind a Wisconsin Union delivery truck when it backed up and hit her Thursday morning.

Madison Police Department spokesperson Joel DeSpain said Dixon, 62, was transported to a nearby hospital from Mendota Court with fatal injuries and later pronounced dead.

According to a university news release, Dixon was a senior academic librarian at Memorial Library and contributed to the university’s prodigious library services.

“She was an invaluable resource to us during numerous library system implementations and her loss will be felt not only by libraries on this campus but also all of the UW System libraries who relied on her expertise and advice,” Ed Van Gemert, vice provost for Libraries and University Librarian said.
