Hazardous material leak at Engineering Hall contained, police say

UPDATE 02/27/2014: The hazardous material leak at Engineering Hall has been contained, according to a WiscAlert. It is safe to return to the area.

University of Wisconsin-Madison Police evacuated Engineering Hall Thursday after an unidentified hazardous material leak occurred, according to UWPD spokesperson Marc Lovicott.

A WiscAlert was sent out to UW-Madison students at approximately 12:35 p.m. Thursday afternoon, warning students and staff to avoid the area.

UWPD and the Madison Fire Department have shut down Engineering Drive surrounding the building, while MFD specialists determine the cause and type of the leak.

Madison Metro buses are stationed outside the building to keep evacuated students and staff warm while the building is being searched, according to Lovicott.
