UPDATE (4:14 P.M.): The main water pipe at the Memorial Union has been repaired and all restaurants, water fountains and restrooms are now open, according to a statement from Wisconsin Union Communications Director Marc Kennedy.
The main water supply pipe in the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Memorial Union froze and will be repaired between 2 and 5 p.m. Monday, according to a statement sent out by the university’s Facilities Office Manager Georgia Pollard.
During the time of repair “there can be absolutely no water use” to avoid draining the system and causing further complications, according to the statement. This includes but is not limited to restrooms, water faucets, hand washing stations and coolers.
Until the pipe is fixed, patrons and staff of the Memorial Union in need of a restroom will be redirected to the adjacent Red Gym.
Memorial Union staff will remove all signs announcing the water pipe issue once it has been resolved, Pollard said in the release.
